Council Launches Second Year of Funding Scheme

04 June 2024

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has opened applications for the second year of the ‘Sports Club Accelerator’ Fund to provide much needed financial support to local sports clubs.  Up to £3,000 is available exclusively for sports organisations to help meet the costs associated with their development.

The ‘Sports Club Accelerator’ Fund will help cover costs with tangible benefits including sports equipment, small scale improvements to grounds, specialised equipment, club development officer funding, one off sports festival events and coach education training.

The fund is aimed at sports clubs located within the Lisburn & Castlereagh area who are affiliated to both a National Governing Body as well as their local Sports Advisory Body, Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh.

Launching the second phase of the ‘Sports Club Accelerator’ Fund, Chair of the Community and Wellbeing Committee, Councillor Thomas Beckett said: “The council recognises the financial pressures sports clubs face as they deliver their programme of activities and events within the Lisburn and Castlereagh area. We are pleased again to have the opportunity to provide valuable support to eligible clubs through this scheme.

“Sport plays a crucial role in helping communities get active and has a positive impact on people’s physical and mental health. Clubs are located at the heart of our communities therefore they offer a lifeline to their members in terms of engagement in regular activity as well as forming a sense of belonging and resilience.”

The closing date for applications is Friday 23rd August. To apply online and read a copy of the guidance notes, please visit https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/sportsacceleratorfund2024/
