The Competition will place Lisburn on the world stage as the six hour event will be streamed live around the world on www.officialstrongman.com for international enthusiasts.

Approximately 60 to 80 competitors will travel to Lisburn to compete in the competition from as far afield as Sweden, Germany, Estonia, Iceland and the Republic of Ireland.  Recognised names hosting and refereeing the competition include three-time World’s Strongest Man and Powerlifting Legend, Bill Kazmier; two-time World’s Strongest Man U105 and multiple Heavyweight Finalist, Darren Sadler and Colin Bryce, presenter of World’s Strongest Man and former Olympian bobsleigher.

Individual events taking place throughout the day-long competition include 300+ Kg Frame Carry, Car and Motorcycle Deadlift, Giant Hammer and Axe Holds along with a Viking Press and Loading Race.

Dave Warner, Event Organiser said, “The contest will be hard fought for all the categories and we have the best line up of tomorrow’s superstars of strength, both in the male and female category.  Fast paced, edge of your seat excitement is guaranteed.”

The top three competitors from each category will receive invites to the Official Strongman Games World Final taking place this December in the United States, while the Heavyweight Male winner will receive an invitation to compete in one of the televised Giant’s Live events with a direct opportunity to qualify for ‘The World’s Strongest Man.’

Speaking at the launch, Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said: “The European Strongman Competition is the ultimate test of strength and endurance and I am delighted that Lagan Valley LeisurePlex has been selected to host this year’s event.

“With competitors travelling from all over the world and the event being live streamed, Lisburn will well and truly be put on the map, and indeed, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex as a destination and facility to hold renowned events.

“I have great respect for all those participating next Saturday and encourage everyone to come along next weekend and show their support by cheering on from the sides lines,” concluded Alderman Porter.
