Funding Boost for Local Sports Clubs

Funding Boost for Local Sports Clubs

02 September 2026

The investment has helped clubs purchase specialised sports equipment, qualify coaches and train volunteers, host sporting events, develop new sporting programmes and create more opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in sport.

The latest funding reinforces the council's ongoing commitment to supporting grassroots sport and ensuring local clubs have the resources they need to grow, develop and thrive.

Councillor Sharon Lowry, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee, said: "Our sports clubs are the heartbeat of our local communities across Lisburn & Castlereagh. This investment of £104,810 will help clubs continue to grow and provide valuable opportunities for people of all ages to develop skills in their chosen sport.

Dundonald Football Club is just one of many clubs who has benefited from this funding, by using its grant to purchase sports analysis performance vests, match balls and training balls. This specialised equipment has already helped enhance player development and make a positive impact within the Castlereagh East community.

The council is delighted to support the many dedicated volunteers and coaches whose commitment makes sport possible. Their efforts play a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of their club members and fostering strong, connected communities.

I look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have as projects continue to be delivered across Lisburn & Castlereagh and hearing about the benefits it brings to local sports clubs.”
