Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh Celebrate Young Sports Stars

July’s winner was tennis player Charlie McVeigh. Charlie had an excellent summer on the European Junior Tennis Circuit. He won three European titles and finished runner-up twice in the Under-14 Junior European Tour. This is a major achievement, as he is still in his first year at this age level. These results moved Charlie to a career-high European ranking of No. 15, putting him in a strong position to qualify for the Junior World Championships in France in January. Charlie also enjoyed success on the Irish circuit throughout July, winning several tournaments in Belfast and Dublin. In late August, he finished runner-up in the doubles competition at the prestigious Fitzwilliam Tournament. Charlie’s results demonstrate his continued development as one of the most promising young players in his age group, competing successfully against some of Europe’s best junior players.

August’s winner was cyclist Caleb McGreevy. Caleb was selected to represent Team Ireland at two major events: the UCI MTB Junior European Championships in July and the UCI Junior World Championships in August. Competing against some of the best junior cyclists in Europe and the world, his selection reflected his strong performance, consistency and potential.The World Championships took place in Val di Sole, Italy, from 24th to 30th August. As a first-year junior, Caleb started in 99th position on the grid and moved through a world-class field to finish in 80th place. He was also the only Irish junior to complete the race. Caleb continues to progress through the performance pathway, with the ambition of becoming an elite international cyclist.
