Santa Dash

19 November 2019

The Christmas spirit will be dashing through Lough Moss Leisure Centre on Thursday 28th November as hundreds of Santa Claus’ will get on their marks to take part in a family Santa Dash and watch the big Christmas Tree Lights Switch On as the Carryduff centre officially launches the start of the festive season.

The event, which is organised by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council in conjunction with Carryduff Regeneration Group, will commence at 6.30pm with the countdown to the Christmas Tree Lights Switch On at the entrance of the centre. Spectators can also enjoy special performances from St Joseph’s Primary School, Carryduff Primary School and Millennium Primary School to get everyone in the festive spirit.

The Santa Dash will then commence at 7pm with a special Santa zumba class for the whole family before everyone heads outside for yuletide fun across a choice of 1km, 3km or 5km routes. After the run, children can then unwind with a Christmas disco, bouncy castle and refreshments to continue the fun.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Alan Givan said,” I am delighted that this year’s Santa Dash will also incorporate the switching on of the Christmas tree lights to create a memorable night to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit.  I would like to thank Carryduff Regeneration Group for organising the switch on and supporting the Council in the delivery of this fantastic event.”

“The proceeds from this year’s Santa Dash will be donated to my Mayoral Charity, Air Ambulance NI so I would encourage people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels to sign-up today and support such a worthy cause,” added the Mayor.

Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley added, “I am thrilled that Lough Moss Leisure Centre is once again the host venue for this year’s Santa Dash event. You don’t need to be an experienced runner to take part, so whether you run, jog or walk around one of the three routes, spread the word and let’s get as many Santa dressed runners, joggers or walkers as possible participating in this year’s event in support of the Mayor’s Charity.

“I would also thank Carryduff Regeneration Group and the local schools for organising the Christmas Tree Lights Switch On and helping to officially launch the Christmas celebrations in Carryduff.”

Entry cost for this year’s event is £8 per adult and £4 per child, which includes your very own Santa suit ensuring you are suitably dressed and full of Christmas cheer. A donation from each entry will be made to the Mayoral Charity, Air Ambulance NI.

Those looking to participate in this year’s event can register by visiting www.theleisureplex.com/book-online.  Santa suits can be collected from Lough Moss Leisure Centre, Hillsborough Road, Carryduff from Monday 25th November at 6pm and registrations can also be made in person at the centre.
